NLF Annual Report
“2010, Year of Change”
The Nevada Law Foundation is dedicated to improving access to justice efforts in Nevada. Funds generated by the Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts (IOLTA) Program, the generous support of the Nevada legal community, and Nevada’s private citizens and businesses are granted annually to programs that extend legal assistance and information to those whose access to justice is limited.
The Nevada Law Foundation has undergone significant changes over the past eighteen months. With encouragement and support from the Supreme Court of Nevada and the State Bar, we capitalized on an opportunity to revitalize our entire organization. We’ve welcomed new Board members committed to the mission of providing equal access to justice. And we’ve continued to grant significant funding to those who support access to justice efforts in Nevada.
In fact, in 2010 we granted $1.6 million to eighteen organizations. Selected for their efficacy and wise use of funds, the organizations included Court Appointed Special Advocates programs, legal aid organizations for low-income citizens, and organizations that provide legal assistance to senior citizens.
The result was increased access to justice for thousands of Nevada residents, children, victims of domestic violence, the elderly, the poor and people who may have otherwise been failed by the system.
There is no question that managing change can be a challenge, but within that challenge lies true opportunity to improve, to gain insight, and to find new avenues for delivering on our mission. We’re pleased to report that the Nevada Law Foundation is working towards just that.
